The ZuvaHomes Story: From "Room Hunting" Frustration to the Future of Living
Every great startup begins with a problem that refuses to be ignored. For ZuvaHomes, that moment happened when my co-founder, Jordan, was moving out of his university residence.
Like many young professionals and students in Zimbabwe, Jordan didn't need a massive suburban mansion—he just needed a high-quality, single room. But as we started the search, we hit a wall that thousands of Zimbabweans face every day:
- The Digital Gap: Quality rooms weren't listed online or were outdated.
- The "Hidden" Costs: Sourcing furniture and setting up internet was a nightmare.
- The Mobility Issue: High viewing fees made exploring options impossible.
The Realization: We Weren't Just Looking for a Room
After weeks of searching, Jordan finally secured a space. But the victory was short-lived. We quickly realized that a "room" isn't a "home" if you can't work, study, or charge your phone. He needed fiber internet. He needed a desk. He needed a place where the lights stayed on when the grid went off.
We asked ourselves: "What if there was a place where we didn't just rent a room, but subscribed to a lifestyle?"
Building the "Always On" Marketplace
We came back to Zimbabwe and started ZuvaHomes with zero capital but a massive vision: To make "Always On" living the standard, not the exception.
Instead of building new houses, we looked at the existing gems in Harare—beautiful 4-bedroom homes in Borrowdale, Avondale, and Mt Pleasant. We realized that by helping landlords transition these properties into executive co-living spaces, we could solve two problems at once: access for tenants and higher yields for landlords.
